The albino nutmeg shell (Cancellaria reticulata) is a rare, pure white color variant of the Common Nutmeg seashell. While standard nutmeg shells are typically tan with brown streaks or rust-colored bands, the albino version is a sought-after "treasure" among beachcombers due to its striking, ghostly appearance.
Albino nutmegs are significantly rarer than their patterned counterparts. While the common variety is frequently found in Southwest Florida, particularly around Marco Island and the Ten Thousand Islands, an albino find is considered a "shell of a lifetime" by local guides.
